Pumpkins and scarecrows
Corn stalks and hay
Leaves on the ground
‘Til winds sweep them away.
Cider and sunflowers
Jackets with hoods
Campfires and asters
Colorful woods.
Crispy cool mornings
Frost on the ground
Playgrounds abandoned
Squirrels abound.
Migrating birds and
Football to play
Your breath in the air
A harvest array.
Pools are all covered
Grills put away
The air is now filled with
A wood smoke bouquet.
Reruns on TV
Quilts on our beds
Knee socks and mittens
Scarves around heads.
Apples, persimmons
Thanksgiving buffet
Sunset comes sooner
To shorten the day.
Late fall brings frostbite
Hayrides and s’mores
Get out the board games
We’re staying indoors.
Winter looms large now
With cold winds and snow
So savor fall’s pleasures
Before they all go.
I love this! Fall is my favorite time of the year and this is such a lovely description!
Thank you, ML.
As Shirley said, “Skip summer and winter and just leave spring and fall.”
The images you have created in your poem, Debbie, are beautiful, just like the season itself!
Thank you, Becky. Enjoy those “quaking” aspens in all their fall glory!
Great poem!
Thank you, Carol. You won’t find such an embracing poem on my site come January! 😦
I love this. Makes you like fall even more. Skip summer and winter and just leave Spring and Fall.
I’m with you, Shirley! Where can we move?
Love this poem! Well done. sister!
Thank you, my Sweet.
Remembering many wonderful falls (springs, summers and winters also) with you. Well, maybe not winters.
Sooo good! Love it!
Thank you, Linda. I love fall. It’s the three or four months AFTER fall that I don’t love. 🙂
That’s a perfect poem for a perfect season:)
Thanks, Joyce. Yes, fall provides a good half-time between summer and winter. I’m usually glad to see it come and sad to see it go.
