GEESE

Yesterday, as I walked down the driveway to put a letter in our mailbox, I saw and heard a flock of geese overhead.

The familiar black, v-shaped pattern was painted against the blue sky.

How beautiful is the example of geese who, like squirrels, hummingbirds, and other animals, make annual preparations for winter.

Seeing the geese, I offered up a silent prayer of thanksgiving.

I thanked God for instilling animals with instincts for their protection and preservation.

I thanked Him that these animals follow the pattern He gave them.

Geese don’t abandon God because His ways don’t make sense to their enlightened minds.

They don’t question the codes He implanted in their natures.

They are and they do exactly what they were created to be and to do.

If only humans were so wise and so faithful.

On Thursday, I will celebrate Thanksgiving.

My heart will overflow with gratitude for the numberless blessings God has given me.

But on Monday, I celebrated geese.

    1. Oh, Pam, my eyes aren’t as open as they should be either. Once in a while I see something and think, “Isn’t that spectacular? Why haven’t I noticed that before?” But those occasions are too rare.

  1. GEESE MATE FOR LIFE AND IF ONE OF THEM GETS HURT AND CAN’T FLY , I HAVE HEARD THAT IT’S MATE STAYS WITH IT UNTIL IT CAN FLY OR DIES.
I FIND THAT SWEET BUT SAD TOO.

  2. I am reminded of God’s great design for His creation–the plants, the animals, and mankind. How can we not believe in His magnificence? It is true what Pat says about the mates. It is also true that geese work as a team when flying. They all take turns being the leader so that no geese gets over-worked or tired. The leader has the hardest job in front, breaking the wind current. The others behind can fly a little bit easier because of the leader breaking the wind first. They all rotate so that no one geese is overworked. Ahhh…such a great lesson from the geese for mankind. All part of God’s design. They do this by instinct!

    1. Amen! I’m afraid some of the “instincts” God planted in mankind have been pushed aside so many times they are buried under rubbish planted in us by the evil one.
